Caren Bayer is the founder and director of Manhattan Center for the Alexander Technique. She is a certified Alexander Technique teacher who trained in London with Patrick MacDonald, a student of F.M. Alexander, and received her post-graduate certification from internationally renowned teacher Rivka Cohen. Caren was also a faculty member at the Rivka Cohen School for the Alexander Technique and the Institute for the Alexander Technique, both certified Teacher Training Programs in New York City.

 

Caren has had a thriving private practice in New York City for the past 22 years and has led numerous workshops in the United States and abroad. A former dancer who majored in dance at York University (Toronto), Caren is a long time student and practitioner of yoga, t'ai chi, Reiki healing, and meditation. She is currently studying t'ai chi and Shaolin with Master Yu Cheng Hsiang.

 

Caren has taught at the New School and is currently on the Faculty at Pacific College for Oriental Medicine, NYC.

 

Nancy Wechter, assistant director, is a senior teacher of the Alexander Technique and has been actively giving lessons in the technique for the past 27 years. A longtime member of the American Society for the Alexander Technique (AmSAT), she was first certified at The American Center for the Alexander Technique (ACAT) under Judith Liebowitz in 1979 and received a second certification from The Society for the Alexander Technique (STAT) in London after studying intensively with Patrick MacDonald, Thomas Lemens and Rivka Cohen (with whom she continues to study).

 

Nancy has taught in several teacher training programs and conducted many workshops with performers, laypeople and advanced care givers including Osteopathic physicians, chiropractors, and massage therapists. She has a background in the arts including dance, choreography and performance. A longtime student of Iyengar Yoga, Nancy has studied Body Mind Centering with Bonnie Cohen, as well as Pilates and Gyrotonics. Hope Gillerman was trained at the American Center for the Alexander Technique with post-graduate certification from Master Teacher Rivka Cohen at the Rivka Cohen School for the Alexander Technique. She was assistant director for four years at the Alexander Technique Training Center in Boston and assisted one year at RCSAT.

 

Along with her 20 years in private practice, Hope has taught the Alexander Technique in wellness programs, physical education departments, rehabilitation centers and performing arts degree programs. As media spokesperson for the American Society for the Alexander Technique, Hope appears on television and contributes expert advice to numerous magazines, periodicals, and book publishers. Kim Clay is an Alexander Technique teacher certified by the American Society for the Alexander Technique (AmSAT). Kim received her training in New York City from Caren Bayer (Manhattan Center for the Alexander Technique, MCAT) and Rivka Cohen. Bayer and Cohen both trained in London under Patrick MacDonald, a student of F.M. Alexander. In addition to Kim's private practice in New York City, she is currently in her 4th year of training at the Barbara Brennan School of Healing.

Jennifer Pliego has been on the faculty at MCAT teaching anatomy and physiology since it opened in 2001.

 

Jennifer is a licensed massage therapist certified in 1995 from the Swedish Institute. She has studied Kinesis Myofascial Integration with Tom Myers and integrates CranioSacral Therapy into her practice in New York City. Jennifer is currently in her third year of training to become a teacher of the Alexander Technique at MCAT.

 

Jennifer Pliego is now a certified teacher of the Alexander Technique. She graduated from MCAT in June 2007.
